Getting to Know Palliative Care
Palliative Care (or supportive care) is a care approach focused on the quality of life for patients and their families. It is holistic care that encompasses physical, mental, social, and spiritual well-being. It emphasizes the intensive management of various distressing symptoms, helping patients maintain the morale to continue living.
It is a common misconception that Palliative Care is merely support that begins only when one “gives up” and stops curative treatments. However, in reality, it can be provided alongside other treatments from the very moment of diagnosis. There is clear evidence that the sooner this care begins, the more it can significantly improve the patient’s quality of life.
