Nakhon Ratchasima is the largest province in Thailand, with the second largest population in the country. According to research on Thailand’s population trends by Patama Wapatanawongse, from Pramote Prasartkul and Associates, for the Population and Society Research Institute of Mahidol University, Thailand will soon become a society of the elderly. Population trends point toward an increased number of elderly and a decreasing youth population. In five years time, the number of children and elderly will be approximately the same. After that time, the number of elderly people will irreversibly out-number that of children, as is evident in most developed countries. With this concern, H.E. Bishop Joseph Chusak Sirisuth, on behalf of the Ratchasima Diocese, donated 18 Rai of land and 20 million bath to build a home for the elderly and entrusted the project to Saint Camillus Foundation of Thailand. This home is to be a symbol of love and mercy for the abandoned elderly and those in need of help.
